so i'm sitting here watching this show on this couple getting married thinking... i may never get to do that. why? because i'm gay and my once again my government chose to treat me as a second class citizen because of the way i was born. how can they tell me i can't marry the one i love? ugh. frustrating.
i really want to turn this show off, it's as simple as the click of a button, but i can't. yes gay couples can get civil unions, but what the eff. does a little thing called separate but equal come in to play here??? whats the difference? the fact that you can't see gay compared to that of being African american. remember when it was illegal for a Caucasian male/female to marry a African american male/female. looking back, being it 2010 we can all see how disgusting it was, and how such a horrible thing was in place to prevent two people from marrying. you fall in love with a person... not a skin color, a vagina, eyes, penis, hair color, i could go on forever. it's the person, the person they are inside. how can you deny that? it breaks my heart thinking about it.
one day our country, our children, grandkids, great-grandkids will look back and be disappointed in their past and the people who ran our country. is this really what we want for future generations? to be discriminated against? to discover that their mommies or daddies can't habe any rights when it comes to their partner's health care? to have our children grow up knowing that mommy and mom can't have a recognized marriage in every state? why is there such a divide in this?
remember that little thing we would say at the beginning of each school day, or fancy dinners? remember... the pledge of allegiance? that little part at the end... with liberty and justice for all. for all. i guess they should change it to say for all except those who are gay :] ah sarcasm. but really thats what it feels like to me. my government should be made for me, my friends, my family, for strangers.. not for the select few.
anyway my rant is over. i hope maybe i changed one persons mind on the subject. i just want what everyone else wants. to live happily with my wife, maybe have a dog, 2.5 children, a white picket fence i'm sure you get the deal if you're still reading this. let's see laws change.... i'll share my favorite quote that always makes me want to become more than i am and accomplish more than i possibly can imagine
"Never doubt that a small group people can change the world; indeed, it's the only thing that ever has."
-Margaret Mead
